Young Adriatic-Ionian Artists Explore Identity and Belonging in a Nomadic Art Exhibition
"Is home a place, a memory, or something I am creating wherever I go?" This question, echoing through decades and resonating with many people in the Adriatic-Ionian region—where dreams, identity, and belonging often stand at a crossroads—has received new answers and a fresh format from the perspective of young Adriatic-Ionian artists.
"Living Without Leaving", an art nomadic exhibition dedicated to the perspectives of young artists in the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region regarding migration, identity, and belonging — opened on Monday, May 5th in Georgioupolis, Crete, as a side event of the 10th EUSAIR Forum!
The art competition "Living Without Leaving? The Perspective of Adriatic-Ionian Young Artists" was launched in February 2025 as an initiative of the European Commission, organized in partnership with the University of Ioannina’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Its aim is to support the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region and to reinforce key values of inclusion, cooperation, and solidarity.
Out of 60 artworks submitted, 15 have been selected from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Serbia. Each piece offers a personal and intimate perspective on youth migration and rootedness.
Following the EUSAIR Forum, the selected artworks will be presented in a touring nomadic exhibition across Belgium, Greece, Albania, and North Macedonia in 2025, ensuring that these artistic reflections reach audiences across borders.
