19 March
EUSAIR team is proud to announce that the first macroregional project proposal has been successfully submitted to the European Commission Funding & Tenders Portal for evaluation as answer to Prevention and Preparedness Projects for Civil Protection and Marine Pollution UCPM-2020-PP-AG call.
The project proposal was designed within the EUSAIR, Environmental Quality Pillar (TSG3). It brings together 5 project partners:
- Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of Republic of Croatia,
- Ministry of Transport and Maritime System Montenegro,
- Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia - Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief,
- University of Ljubljana - Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport Portorož, Slovenia and
- National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics, Italy.
The aim of the project, that was drafted with the help and coordination of EUSAIR Facility Point project partner Municipality of Izola, is to enhance the protection of the Adriatic Sea from pollution caused by ships and other maritime objects by preparing an operatively important Sub-Regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan. The estimated budget of the project is 1.175.609 EUR.
The main output of the project will be the Sub-regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan, that will develop tools and frameworks for risk assessment to improve understanding of shared risks with cross-border impacts and define the methods of action of relevant authorities and stakeholders in case of an accidental pollution of the EUSAIR Sea. By extensive analysis of current conditions and existing contingency plans and also by executing simulation exercises and trainings the project aims to enhance the cross-border cooperation. It will also design a system to tackle the marine pollution caused by maritime accidents by strengthening the training system. With development of specific training centres, it will enhance sustainable cooperation and coordination of all relevant authorities in emergency responses with other countries to prevent negative and potentially catastrophic consequences caused by maritime accidents.
