Implementation of EU macro-regional strategies – 5th report

The 5th report on the implementation of EU macro-regional strategies was adopted on 3rd December 2025 by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).
Some key conclusions include the EESC recognizing the role of macro-regional strategies in generating multi-level synergies between policies, programmes and actors, as well as calling for governance and funding to be strengthened to integrate MRS’ priorities into EU’s main programmes.
The EESC stresses the need for more transparent, responsible and corruption-free governance in the institutions involved in the MRS and calls for the creation of a new macro-regional strategy in the Mediterranean to address common challenges such as climate change, migration flows, the energy transition and blue sustainability.
