Within the EUSAIR Pillar 2 flagship on Green and Smart Ports and in the framework of the Italian Presidency of EUSAIR, the Central European Initiative (CEI) – Executive Secretariat is coordinating an initiative aimed at identifying the skills needed to support the transition towards Green Ports, in line with the emerging needs of ports, shipping companies and terminal operators across the Adriatic-Ionian region.
Building on the results achieved so far, the initiative is now entering a new phase, which will move forward along two main pillars:
- The drafting of the EUSAIR Trieste Charter, a shared strategic document identifying the priority skills needed for green jobs in ports. The Charter will set out a common effort among port authorities, education and training institutions and the private sector to support investment in training and innovation for the decarbonisation of the sector, and will be presented and signed during a dedicated event to be held in Spring 2027.
- The design of a dedicated training programme to foster the development of Green Ports skills identified as shared priorities through the Charter (format to be defined).
How to contribute
To ground this next phase in the actual needs of the sector, CEI invites ports, port authorities, terminal operators, research bodies, training institutions and other relevant stakeholders to share:
- updates on training activities related to green and/or digital skills for port staff, whether already completed or currently planned;
- contacts of terminal operators active in their ports, to gather their direct perspective on training needs, skills and priorities;
- brief feedback on the Trieste Charter initiative, including its overall value and relevance and the topics that should be prioritised.
