Climate change is already reshaping the Adriatic-Ionian Region. Coastal and inland territories face common challenges including floods, droughts, heat, coastal erosion, water scarcity and ecosystem degradation. Addressing these cross-border risks requires stronger coordination between scientific knowledge, public policies, investment and concrete action at territorial level.
On 18–19 November 2026, Ancona will host “Climate Change Adaptation in the Adriatic-Ionian Region: From Policies to Pilots”, a two-day event organised by Marche Region within the Italian Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) 2026–2027, in connection with the Interreg Italy-Croatia strategic project REALIST.
The event will bring together EUSAIR governance representatives, European and national institutions, regional and local authorities, research organisations, civil protection bodies, European projects and territorial stakeholders. Through institutional dialogue, project experiences, thematic working groups and pilot-oriented sessions, participants will explore how climate-risk evidence can be translated into governance solutions, investments, preparedness measures and concrete adaptation actions.
Building on experiences developed through several European cooperation initiatives including ADRIACLIM, CLIMAAX, P2R and REALIST, the event will focus particularly on bridging the gap between climate strategies and their practical implementation.
From strategies to transferable solutions
The first day will connect EUSAIR priorities, European policy perspectives, regional planning instruments and concrete pilot experiences, with the aim of identifying practical pathways from governance frameworks to transferable implementation models.
The second day will move from discussion to co-design. Thematic working groups will transform evidence, pilot results and territorial needs into operational priorities and transferable solutions for the Adriatic-Ionian area.
