The 23rd meeting of the Thematic Steering Group (TSG2) on Transport took place on Friday, 17 October 2025, in Trieste, at the premises of Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region.
The meeting, coordinated by the Pillar Coordinators from Italy, Serbia and North Macedonia, recorded strong in-person participation, fostering a constructive exchange among representatives of EUSAIR countries, EU institutions, regional authorities and transport-sector stakeholders.
As part of the activities aimed at implementing the new EUSAIR Action Plan and advancing the new priorities identified for Pillar 2, the group discussed progress in two key areas:
- the update of the Transport Master Plan, a strategic document guiding the development of connectivity and the sustainability of mobility systems across the Macro-Region, carried out with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, partner of the EUSAIR Facility Point project;
- the preparation of two Issue Papers, focusing respectively on the development of the Mobility as a Service concept and on the use of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence to improve transport-planning capacity in the Adriatic-Ionian Region.
Special attention was given to the involvement of young people in macro-regional cooperation processes, highlighted by the participation of Francesco Moroni, member of the EUSAIR Youth Council from San Marino and Pillar Group Leader for Pillar 2-Transport. Mr. Moroni underlined the importance of enhancing youth participation and promoting initiatives that raise awareness about the opportunities offered by EUSAIR.
In this context, the proposal to organise a capacity-building event for young people—in collaboration with associations and research groups from the macro-region—was warmly welcomed. The event could take the form of a hackathon aimed at developing innovative ideas for sustainable mobility in the Adriatic-Ionian area. The initiative may be supported through resources available under the EUSAIR Facility Point for Capacity Building activities.
Finally, the main events planned within the 2026 Work Programme of Pillar 2 – Transport were presented, including:
- a Conference on Transport Connectivity in the Adriatic-Ionian Region (Skopje, April 2026);
- the EUSAIR Annual Forum (North Macedonia, May 2026);
- an Inter-ministerial Conference on the WB/EM Corridor (Italy, June–October 2026);
- an Event on European Corridors with the participation of EU Corridor Coordinators (Italy, November 2026).
- The next TSG2 meeting will take place in Skopje in spring 2026, back-to-back with the Conference on Transport Connectivity in the Adriatic-Ionian Region, organised under the North Macedonian Presidency of EUSAIR.
